P.I.E.

(Points of Interest on Ella)

- She was born precisely on her due date - according to our doctor, this happens with 5% of babies.

- When she popped out our doctor discovered that her umbilical cord was tied in a complete pretzel knot. He had only seen 1 or 2 of those in his entire career. (And, yes, praise God that this fact is only showing up on an inconsequential list of interesting details)

- 5 days ago, we had no idea what she looked like. Though she slept in bed with us every night, we had not met. She was unborn, living inside another. 9 months ago she did not exist. There are eyes now that were not, ears that now hear sounds in a unique way, a mouth that recently did not contribute to the world, hands that will do what otherwise would not be done. A person has come to be. We are really enthralled with this right now and are repeatedly adoring her Creator, as her grandfather prayed on her first night home, "for her fantastic mystery, glory, and complexity."

P.I.E. from Dad's perspective:

- Being born at 7 lb 11 oz, she and Dad will likely be going on lots of Slurpee dates.

- In 5 days, her mouth has made approximately 832 different, adorable expressions. Dad has counted them.

- Meanwhile, Dad breaks out in the same redundant super-goofy grin every time he sees her.

- Her nose has tiny tiny pale dots on it, making it look like the most precious miniature strawberry you could ever imagine.

- How could a simple sneeze make a grown man melt all over the floor, forcing grandma Sherry to get the mop out and start all over again?

- Momma Anna is Dad's new hero - nursing, sleeping, eating, not sleeping, healing, and operating as chief commanding officer for everybody else all at the same time.

phone and internet are temporarily restored! unfortunately, i did not sufficiently plan for this stroke of luck and so my battery is dying. but i have a few thoughts to quickly leave with you all:
- she's gorgeous! and i've seen a few thousand newborns in my life, so that is saying something.
- i love the name. of course, i'm partial to part of it, but really like ella too. i feel like it's what i would have guessed.
- i like that she's made exactly 832 new noises. it's not like i've never seen that number before.
- i'm sad that i won't be able to meet her until june, until then, i'll just have to have several phone conversations with her where i explain the meaning of life (since i have so obviously figured that one out)
- it's so awesome to see anna as a mom. i feel like she's wanted to have this for so long and now that it's here, it just fits so perfectly
- i'm proud of you both and love all 3 of you more than i thought possible. can't wait to see you again (and for the very first time)!

What a great post :) How are you guys doing?! Hanging in there with the new sleep schedule and all? Those first few weeks are so crazy. I always wondered how in the world I'd function the next day with those (at the MOST) 2 hour cat naps on and off through the night. Thankfully His mercies are new EVERY morning. Becoming a parent really solidified that truth for us :) It's so fun to see your beautiful girl and you two so in love with being parents. It's a bumpy first few weeks, but you'll be in the groove in no time. And thanks for your prayers as we adjust to life with a totally flipping out toddler and new babe ourselves. We'll be doing the same for you all!
Love,
Amy

I'm so happy for you guys--what a gorgeous baby girl. (I think another P.I.E. is that she was born on Dennis' bday--must be a great day! :)) I can't wait to hear about how everything is going for the Porter family as they adjust to the new addition! You guys look like fabulous parents already--talk soon!
